Bhopal: Is the Madhya Pradesh government unable to resolve issues of even schoolchildren in state? It seems so as more and more students are taking to writing to prime minister’s office (PMO) to get basic facilities at their schools and issues resolved.

In the latest example, a 10-year-old boy from a school in Janakpur of Chhatarpur wrote to the PMO, highlighting that his government school needed additional classrooms and ceiling fans.

“It is very difficult for the children to study due to hot conditions and lack of classrooms,” the boy Rohit Omprakash wrote to PM Narendra Modi.

The boy, a class 5 student, also mentioned issues with mid-day meal distribution and drinking water facilities. Rohit’s parents work as migrant labourers in Jammu.

As soon as the letter reached the PMO and the senior officials in MP secretariat were informed, things got in action mode and Rs 4 lakh was sanctioned for repair and additional construction for the Janakpur primary school, about 20km from Chhatarpur district headquarters.

Also arrangements for the fan and other basic facilities are to be now made in the school.

Only last month, students of a school in Raisen wrote to the PMO, mentioning about lack of enough plates for mid-day meal. After this 100 plates were sanctioned.

Another government schoolboy from Rajgarh wrote to the PM in September too, complaining about his head master who allegedly remained absent regularly and beat up students when they complained about this to him. The issue was then taken up by Rajgarh district administration.

Child right activists have said that it was unfortunate that the school students had to petition the highest office to get minor issues resolved. “This speaks volumes about the ground connect of the government officials and their efficacy in getting issues addressed,” an activist said.
