BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan faced dozens of questions about Vyapam scam when he appeared in the Bhopal court on Friday.

Chouhan stood for hours in the witness box in front of the special judge Kashinath Singh in Bhopal court.

The CM had gone to the court in connection with the defamation case filed on his behalf against Congress leader KK Mishra.

Though court exempted Chouhan from answering most of the questions on Vyapam scam saying that they were unrelated to the case, he faced the volley from questions from defence lawyer Ajay Gupta, who is KK Mishra's counsel in the case.

Gupta submitted before court that these questions were necessary as the defamation case filed by Chouhan was linked to the Vyapam scam. KK Mishra's statement linking Chouhan and his wife to Vyapam scam, had prompted Chouhan to file the case against Mishra.

In the statements recorded before framing of charges, Chouhan replied to the questions of the defence lawyer. Gupta asked Chouhan if he knew Vyapam scam accused Prem Prasad, who was former private secretary to CM.

Chouhan replied in the affirmative but when asked about the duration he (Prasad) served in CM House, the Chief Minister said that he didn't remember it.

The CM during his statement mentioned that due to Mishra's allegation, BJP MLAs had raised some stinging questions to him during a training camp for legislators in Khajuraho in June 2014.

Also Union home minister Rajnath Singh had asked him (Chouhan) as to what the issue was. The CM said that this lowered his social prestige.

The CM got a break of only ten minutes during the proceedings and just got a cup of tea as refreshment, that was brought for him from a local vendor by collector Nishant Warwade.
